Events
The Blato Summer Festival lasts from 16th July till 15th August. It is the traditional program with many rich and diverse cultural and entertainment events focusing on the preservation of the cultural heritage. The regular parts of the program are classical music nights, while previously the visitors enjoyed the performances by the principal opera soloists and soloist of the Croatian National Theatre, the concerts by the professors of the international summer school Upbeat and other renowned artists.
The drama program offers the performances by guest ensembles and local amateurs. The repertoire usually consists of comedies but there are also puppet theatre performances for children. Local and foreign artists hold their exhibitions regularly. The pop and rock concerts by popular Croatian artists are held on the square in front of the parish church. At this time the loggia at the center of the square changes into a giant bar.
During the Blato Summer the visitors can learn about the Blato folklore heritage through the performances of the Knight’s society Kumpanija (V.U. Kumpanija). The society performs ancient dances in the traditional and picturesque costumes. The reconstruction of the battle with Turks, which was held in 1571, is very interesting.
During summer the town of Blato organizes the Festival of klapa’s of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
